How about those ladder stands for bowhunting

Recommended Posts

Maybe Scoot is just super strong!

Heck no, I'm not particularly strong. I'm in pretty decent shape, but I'm sure I'm lower than average in strength. There's a definite knack to it, but once you figure it out, it's not so hard.

I put the bottom of the ladder against a tree or log near where I want it to end up. Then I go to the sitting end of the stand and lift it above my head. After that, I simply "walk" my way up the rungs of the ladder with my hands, lifting the sitting end of the stand up higher as I go. The double ladder stands are tougher, but if I can do it, most can do it too. I think the single ladder stands are pretty easy to do this with. It just takes a little practice.

I was the guy that hunted out of hang on stands and put them 20 to 25 feet up in the tree. Until one day setting up a hang on, the branch I was leaning on decided to break

Well there's your problem! I know my stands instruct not going higher than 15 feet and to use a safety harness smile Ignore the safety instructions and you'll have a bad time.

A fall from a ladder stand is very dangerous too.

I have never seen a warning sign on a stand that advises not to go above 15 feet. I have never hunted out of a stand that was under 17 feet, whether a hang on stand or a ladder. I buy all 17 foot ladders to bow hunt out of.

We were all young and dumb at one point in our lives, especially if you were ever a die hard bow hunter, than you have hunted out of the kind of stands I am talking about eek

Scoot,

You must have a boom truck to get those 2-man stands up by yourself...uffda!!! All seriousness I prefer a 1-man ladder any day. Like someone said before me it sure is nice to walk up to your stand and be in and settled within seconds. Yes they're a little noisy at first but when in your good to go. Now I have been known to morph two different stands together but for safety reasons I can't get two specific but 1man ladder + hangon= perfect stand. grinwhistle

The only real concern I have with stands is you can get silhouetted if you stand up and it's hard to turn around and shoot different direction while sitting...see above for solution ^^^^^

Be safe and good luck!!!

MR
