iPhone question - transferring files

It does, as long as the owner of the PC is not too stubborn to install iTunes. At least that is the conclusion I have come to.

And thats fine if we're talking about the porn machine in the corner of your Mancave in the basement of your home.

But we're not, and that is why I started this thread asking for some very specific app advice for a very specific purpose, laying out the ground rules from the very beginning. That's not being stubborn, but rather working within the constraints which I have been dealt.

I do appreciate the suggestions and ideas though.

BTW, is there a way to install iTunes if the PC doesn't have internet access?

Does the computer have Blue tooth? Or does the computer have a USB port? If so, then yes.

Personally in this instance, as rare as it is, I would just use your Android, since it is the best phone in the world, because it can transfer a file, without having to add Itunes. Although, it will still install its own driver into it regardless.

Yes. copy the installer to a thumb drive on any other computer, like the note I posted above from the diskaid folks.

And, so if apple redid itunes as a device driver that got installed automatically you would be ok? BTW how does this computer with no internet get device drivers if a new unfamiliar piece of hardware is plugged in? Typically mine has to go fetch them from someplace on the net. Or does the IT canned image have every device driver ever needed in it?

Oh, and if they have a wireless network and you plug in a dongle I bet you can get on the internet, except you might need to borrow or have a login. Depends on how locked down everything is. I know a guy that works for a defense contractor on military stuff, and they do stuff in faraday cages with no devices of any kind allowed inside.

What would the driver do? I can already connect the iPhone to a PC and download photos. Anything more than that and it would probably be classified as a "program", wouldn't it?

Geesh!

And I'm the stubborn one?

They don't have to redesign iTunes....all they have to do is simply allow access to the file structure of the phone like every other device that isn't as magical as their's. crazy

I'm not a software expert, but I thought phones, thumb drives, usb hard drives all work on a generic driver for USB mass storage that is built into current operating systems, no downloading drivers required. Plug it in, wait a few seconds and it's good to go. iphones don't have that function, except for giving you access to the folder where pictures are kept.

Apple doesn't want you digging around in the file system, ever, where fools can screw up their phones randomly moving or deleting stuff. They want to control your digging around through iTunes.

Sadly, I think a lot of phone manufacturers have moved towards the apple system of locking up control. It used to be just iphones that you couldn't easily replace a battery. And it was just apple that wouldn't let you just stick a $15 microSD card in the side and double your storage.

At least software-wise, android allows users some sort of control over the look and function of their devices.

Do you think I would have created this thread if that was an option?

Transfering the data wirelessly to a flash drive from the iphone and plugging that into the pc isn't what you are trying to do?

Look up "sandisk connect". I reread the original question about email on iphone to computer. This looks like it will work.

http://www.sandisk.com/products/wireless/flash-drive/

Takes an app on the iphone, plugs into usb on computer.

I saw that when looking up the dual USB device that I mentioned earlier today but didn't have time to fully investigate.

I wonder if it will handle proprietary files with unique file extensions or if even cares. It says "files" or "documents". Hopefully that doesn't restrict it to common word/spreadsheet/pdf file types.

It's still more than I want to spend, and more than I should have to spend, but it might work.
