20lbSloughShark
I didn't want to walk out far, but found some safe ice over 10' of water. I spent saturday evening and sunday morning moving tip ups around from 4'-10' and got 2 northerns and a bass with one dropped bait. The pike seemed aggressive. The second one I got, I didn't even set the depth on the tip up, as soon as I dropped the bait in the water, line stared screaming off while I still had the tip up in my hand. Bwana
I went about 400 yards out on one of the lake and it was solid as can be it was about 6 ft of water. Seen alot of guys out on bingham lake so I tried it and didnt get a bite. Must have been the ice rush cuz nobody had anything I talked to. Nick H.
I went with a fishing partner to a west suburban lake he knew very well. I had a spud bar and he drug the sled. He had his hands full with this rookie but we limited out on crappies in under an hour. Would have been sooner but my cheap spring bobber iced up and I lost a few fish before switching over to another panfish rod I set up. Nailed the next 3. All fish were 9-10.5". We looked all over the corner of the lake we were fishing for some sunfish but didn't catch a single one. I really don't know what I'm doing but my "guide" did an awesome job. I only measured the ice in one spot and my 4" long drill bit didn't hit water so it was at least that thick. This was my first time "chipping" a hole in the ice to fish through. Ha ha.
