palindrome
I have had a Voyager for a number of years, and possibly want to get another Voyager shelter. I want to get one tricked out before ice,and want to order one as none are available at the shops yet.My concerns are about the tub designs. I have not been able to determine the tub design on the 2013 models, In the catalog ie. page 10,(bottom right) X1 Thermal, they show a definite tub design,I'll call it a flat top. but on page 11 they show an entirely different tub design for the same shelter(like a horse drawn sleigh, high on both ends) ????Does any one know what tub shapes are on the new models? The pictures and videos don't do it and are possibly last years. I want individual seats, with flat top design(another words if upside down empty it would lay flat on the ground all way round), and I want the biggest one available. Also I sight fish frequently and the black interior worked great. Do the grey tops prevent sight fishing? Thanks for any input.
Brad B
If you want something that would be comparable in size to your Voyager you would need to look at the X2 and not the X1. the X1 is a flat top type sled(see link below) and a one man house. the X2 is a two man house. the gray fabric will let more light in so it might not work for sight fishing. the X2 sled is higher on each end than the sides so not a flat top. you always get another Voyager. it is now called the Voyager TCX. it now has a thermal roof but the walls are still non thermal. here is the X1 video(this house is new this year) here is the X2 video (it was from last year but nothing has changed)
A.W.Wolfram
The gray thermal top is not ideal for site fishing.
palindrome
Thanks for the reply...I watched the videos and I do need a 2 man. Do you know if the if either the Jason Mitchel or Voyager XTC has a flat top design?
Steve@CLAM
The flat tub shown on page 10 of the catalog is the X1 tub. The gray "sleigh styled" tub shown on page 11 is the X2 tub and is displayed there to point out the grey interior that is included in all three X-series tubs, whether the sleigh style on the X2 and X4 or the flat style on the X1.The largest "flat style" tub would be the Voyager TCX and the Jason Mitchell Thermal X. Both have the same flat tub. The Thermal X is full thermal, tricked out with two bait buckets, lights built into the pole, storage hammocks under the seats, center console, and a travel cover included. The interior is all gray. The Voyager TCX has the same great seats with hammock underneath and a center console. Thermal cap but not walls. The interior is solid black on the walls and black fabric fused thermal cap.The gray interior of the Thermal X intentionally lets in light, which I actually prefer when I'm not sight fishing (or when I'm "sight fishing" with a camera). When I need it dark inside I prefer the Voyager TCX with the black interior. The fused black roof does let light in at the fuse lines. I don't have a problem with it but some prefer a non-thermal top. In that case you'd be looking at the new Warrior -- all black interior, deluxe padded bench seat, and comes with an auger bracket and travel cover. The tub is not as wide as the Voyager and Thermal X though. 58" for the Warrior vs. 72" for the other two.All awesome choices -- just depends on what you're looking for. Chad Peterson
Good Information Steve. When sight fishing I like the dark roof so looking down the hole is easy to see the fish.
palindrome
The information is just what I needed. I've spent the last 2 weeks trying to get it. Thanks so much for the response.
JohnMickish
So what did you decide?
JSK76
Anyone know what the travel cover for the X1 is like? Is it the easily ripped blue standard cover or does it have the nicer grey material with an access zipper like the old X2?
Steve@CLAM
JSK76, pretty rare that we have issues with the blue travel covers, but in answer to your question, the X1 travel cover is gray with a zipper top like the X2 style.
JSK76
My cover for my JM one man ripped at the point the poles attach to the sled but to be fair my otter cover ripped on the 10 mile ride to the lake in the back of my truck from the WIND hitting it, no Joke! Noting in the sled to tear it, just the factory seating and it's a big rip. Glad to hear about the x1 cover being the gray type I might have to sell the JM and get the X1. Sat in a new otter cottage today too, it's nice also but I hate how loose and thin the otter covers are now.
