Is October too late to areate?

Our lawn took a beating this summer with dog and kid traffic. We've got a graduation in the spring so it's gonna need some rehab in order to look nice by then. I usually overseed and areate in early September, but we've got sports and a million other things going on until early October. Will areation still help or will i be doing more harm than good?

By no stretch a turf expert like some on here, but my opinion is flip a coin. If we get a long drawn out fall like last year coupled with a heavy insulating snow it would not be too late. Conversely if is a bone dry cold mid to late Oct. and not much snow cover this winter it really will not help at all and might make things a little worse. So you got to ask yourself..."do ya feel lucky?"
