Voltage and Sonar Operation

MNBIGBEAR

Question

I have a Lowrance 510C sonar hooked up to the cranking battery. When I have the GPS unit running and other things on in the boat the voltage meter on my sonar sometimes reads as low as 9.1-9.2 volts... will this affect how the sonar operates? (thinking it may be time to replace the cranking battery)

I am surprised that the 510-c does not shut down at that low voltage!

My old 510-c would shut down if it ever got below 12 volts!

My guess is that you need a new starting battery as you assumed. Get as large of a battery as your battery area will accommodate. May cost a little more but will last longer with fewer problems.

Something is radically wrong there??I'd guess the 510 metering is askew.

Heres something to look at.

* Fully charged batteries store at 12.75 volts

* 50% state of charge is 12.3 volts

* 100% state of discharge is 11.90 volts

Is the 510C connected directly to the battery, or connected to the wiring somewhere else in the boat?
