Driftless in mid sept?

Can anyone advise me on the quality of the trout fishing in SE Minnesota about mid September? Between work and NSP obligations i can not sneak out of town till the 3rd week. Is it worth the 600 mile round trip? Looking at base camping out of forestvill state park and exploring the root river system.

Fall is probably the best time to be in the Driftless. Especially that time of year. If you're into trout fishing, you'd be hitting it up almost perfectly. The bite will likely be transitioning from terrestrials to streamers at that point with the fish gearing up for the spawn, and less terrestrials being available as forage.

I won't go into specifics here, but you're welcome to pm me if you need more info.
