2005 Volvo S60 2.5 Turbo Question

jeffreyd

Question

Hello all. I am considering buying a 2005 Volvo S60 2.5 turbo with 80k on it. It is going through dealer inspection now i figure they will want around 9K for it. Anyone own one? Any problems with the motor? I know the motor is a solid machine, but have heard horror stories about timing belts. The service guy said it says 10 yr or 120k before replacing, but at 80k not sure of full history yet, should i tell them the only way i will take it is to have a new timing belt kit put in? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Jeff

Not to my update. I will know more tomorrow. I did call the volvo dealer and talked to the service manager about it overall. This model does not require a new belt kit until it is 10 yrs old or 120k. the older ones needed it 100k or so. Everything that i have read online about it indicates that this could be a250-300k mile car if pm is followed. for my use it will be my wires daily driver of about 5 miles a day, 10 on a busy one. They are doing their normal shop run through fixing safety issues, pm engine, etc. Before i do anything i want the list of repairs made, see if they are willing to throw in the belt, volvo quoted 558.00 including the labor and parts to put the belt kit in. I will have them put it on a rack, get my micrometer out check rotors, brake pads if not new, check for flood issues and any outstanding rust areas that might show concern.

Also not sure if they run struts or shocks with a sway bar but either way they need to be good not just cleaned off. They do give a 2 yr, 11k drive train warranty with it since it has a turbo.

Thanks for the replies, i will let you know what i come up with.
