Sunny86
Ok guys, I need your help. I just purchased a 1984 Alumnimun Sea King 14ft boat. The owner was not able to provide me the title but a registation card only. He said that the owner before him lost it. He has been using the registeration card to buy tabs for it only. Now, what can I do?? If I was to take it to the DMV, will they issue me the title?? Any help will greatly appreciate. ThanksBTW I live in MN. pinkfloyd4ever
this happened to me with my first boat, the boat was passed to my uncle to pay off a bar tab and he gifted it to me. He signed a letter with the Hull ID listed describing the transfer of ownership for the boat and trailer. I went to the DMV with that and they licensed it for me and sent a title/watercraft registration card. You should be able to do the same thing.Easiest thing would be to just go to a DMV and ask them
Sunny86
So what will happen if I cannot get the bill of sale from the actual owner? Is the boat still transferable? The seller I bought the boat from never recieve a title from the original owner.
Pat K
A 14' boat would only have a registration card.It would not be titled unless it was 16' or longer or if it's original purchase was financed by a bank.A signed registration card from the seller or a bill of sale is all that is needed to change the registration with the DNR. pinkfloyd4ever
I'm pretty sure you can get a bill of sale document with a simple search online, download and print a generic form and both parties sign. I didn't catch that you got a registration card, seller signs and you should be good to go
