I am a long time duck hunter, however almost entirely on private land. I am looking for some suggestions for some public land within an hour drive of the west metro. I have scoured the posts and have some ideas, however what to see if anyone had other suggestions. I do have gazette, canoe and young dog. I am looking for something of the beaten trail - do not want people shooting over my head. Thanks for any and all advice.

Sorry I'm no help, the last time I went to a spot like you described I had someone set up and shoot over my decoys.

look for WMAs with the smaller potholes on it around bigger lakes. I bet more hunters would be on the lakes. If you dont have a WMA map, try the Rec compass on DNRs HSOforum. Or I have seen some gas staions hocking the MWA on (which is just a copy of the FREE one from the DNR) for about 4 bucks. Try Holiday gas stations.
