I fish tourneys too as a non-boater and the ones I lose are all that are over our 12 in minimum, the ones that stay on measure 11 1/2 or 11 3/4.. lol.. so i get upset even if its a 13 in fish smile

I say handle it with a little class and dignity. You aren't going to catch them all, that's just the way it is. Throwing a temper tantrum isn't going to help.

You are certainly right, Perch. I just don't have any class or dignity to begin with, so that makes it hard. smile

That's why I don't think I'd like tourney fishing. I'm competitive and love to fish, but I don't want to flip out whenever I lose a 13" fish because it's cost me money.

Kind of like how fantasy football can take the joy out of watching a football game.

The only time I let go with the words was hooking into something HUGE from shore down in Florida. I couldn't stop it after it peeled out at least two hundred yards, and panicked and worked the line too hard and it snapped.

I had plenty of line left to let it run a little longer, but without a big penn senator or something with 600+ yards I just panicked early.

I've never hooked into that kind of size again, but I sure wish I could have just been a little more patient to give myself a chance at landing a big catch on the sand. Who knows, maybe it was a 200lb shark or something cool like that.
