Humminbird 1198 Transducer Placement

speedbump

Recommended Posts

I just pulled the trigger today and picked up my 1198. I am installing it on the transom of my Alumacraft Navigator 175. I am curious if there are other Navigator/Dominator/Competitor owners who have mounted the "bar of soap" transducer and, if so, exactly where did you mount it? The instructions are a little generic and I would like to drill as few holes in my mounting plate as possible.

I mounted mine based off the instructions provided and have no issues. Stay away from and design features (strakes, etc) on bottom of hull. Keep the transducer level (use an actual level as eye balling it will throw you for a loop), use pencil lines and make sure you have it all lined up right the first time, give yourself a little room with the marks as the bracket itself allows for up and down movement. Mine is level with both horizontally and vertically and is running even with the water line as marked on the transducer and still receive signal at WOT (50 mph). Another thing to watch is placing it where the bunks/rollers line up so you don't hit it when you trailer it. Take your time, think it through.
