Outside the box

Thinking outside the box here- but has anyone tried "bass frogs" for trout day or night fishing?

what is the difference between a frog and a mouse fly?

A bass frog is designed to be weedless, so if one overshoots the creek, they won't get so hung up in the tall grass on the other side. Might be able to work those tight to shoreline undercuts?

Lemme tell you guys something that'll open your eyes. Decades ago, out in Bristol Bay where the big fish come to play, a few of us discovered the trick of tying up some little brown mouse/mole looking patterns. We never fished them when alone however.

Years later, on a couple of private ranches I fished, where browns and rainbows were prolific, I tried the same thing but I did it when I was alone.

First drift I made, just as dusk, an enormous creature rose from the water and nearly dragged me into the stream. Scared me so bad I went back to the truck.

We never fished them to those enormous Bristol Bay rainbows while alone because we were always afraid some guy was going to get dragged in if he didn't have somebody to hold on to him!

You may only get a few rises on your mouse fly, just as dark settles onto the creek, but they are gonna be some things you'll remember.

I wouldn't go out there alone though.
