Hey guys I'm looking for some help with my boat motor. The issue I am having is I pulled my boat out and put a brand new batt in. The boat motor would not turn over initially but I would get a clicking noise out of the starter. Had another boat next to it and hooked some jumper cables up to the two and my boat cranked right up. Unhooked it and my boat started doing the same thing. The boat would turn over after turning my key several times and holding it in the starting position. Called my dealership and they said it sounds electrical. The new batt has 550 cold cranking amps. My old interstate batts have 800 plus. They told me it could be the batt I have isn't big enough. Cables are clean and have been checked. Does anyone have any advice??

I just pulled up the owners manual and it says the required CCA is 502A. I second WaveWacker's suggestion and make sure it's charged. Also another dumb question, are you using a starting battery or a deep cycle?

Does it click all the time, just doesn't turn the engine over? If so, the problem is not the switch.

Also, 500 cca is adequate for your engine. I suspect either a bad connection, double check the connections on the engine as well as at the battery. Check the bolts on the starter to make sure it's grounding, check the cable at the solenoid and starter. Once you've verified all connections are good and you still have issues, take the starter to an automotive electrical shop to have it tested.
