Upgrading boat electronics and and looking at Bird 858c and Low Elite-7 HD. I have a couple of questions. Does the Bird use the older Lakemaster chips that I have for my H20? (4 years old). Any thoughts on the down scan feature that both models have? Gimmick? Any other thoughts or comments would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Lakemaster chips are brand specific. You will not be able to use a Lowrance version in an HB and vice versa. As far as the DI versions go, I would say they are comparable. I did hear that the 858 HD DI does not have the true Dual Beam Plus, that everyone is familiar with on the non DI units. So be cautious if that is swaying your decision.
