Mounting Space Needed For HDS 7/8

TMF89

Question

Trying to decide between the two, and I'm hoping this might make it easier. If anyone with a 7/8 could chime in and tell me how much space you think is necessary to mount the unit on a RAM mount under a windshield on a console. Thanks for the help guys!

I don't have my boat here to measure, but I can say that the 10 won't fit under a crestliner 1850 sportfish windshield -- but the 8 does (barely). They have the dimensions all specced out on the lowrance HSOforum for all of their units. Make yourself a 3d model using cardboard, at the same dimensions that are listed. Depth is very important here, not just length and width. Once you have that you're golden.

The HSOforum has them. Under "specifications" there are only the main points, but if you click on the word "specifications", it expands out to more specs, including the size. For example, the HDS 8 Gen2 is here:

Technical/Environmental

Operating Temperature (5F - 130F) (-15C - 55C)

Operating Temperature Stored (-40F - 185F) (-40C - 85C)

Built-in Backup Memory Yes

Casing

Sealed and waterproof IPX7

Product Width 10.6 in \ 269 mm

Product Depth 3.7 in \ 93 mm

Product Height 7.8 in \ 197 mm

Yep, make a cutout.

I sat in my boat for a while switching between a paper 7 and 8 in different places. Settled on the 8 behind the windshield of an alumacraft and it hangs out over the dash a little to make it fit.
