leechlake
for the first time ever I fished with a guide last weekend when the weather was really cold, it was windy, and one day the temps dropped as the day went on. It was odd/changing weather.the guide is one of the guys you see in all of the ice fishing equipment ads. We were perch fishing and when we started he mentioned that it seems that during goofy weather he has better fishing on flats than on humps or shoreline drop offs or any structure. Sure's as heck he was correct. We started on flats and moved around a bit but ended up fishing mud flats for two days and really got into a lot of fish. Others on the lake weren't fishing the same featurless mud and from them they did poorly.I asked the guide why and he said "it just seems that's the way it is." I buy that practically but am curious to why it may be true.
Cliff Wagenbach
I find that in goofy weather patterns the fish are in a negative feeding mood and move into the mud flats. They feed mostly on easy to catch May fly nymphs that are always present there.Cliff
