Question

Hello, I just bought a Garmin 450t with the Garmin upper midwest lake chip. Now keep in mind I dont know a whole lot about these things. am i suposed to beable to look at lake maps on it while sitting at home. It also has a cord to plug from GPS to USB port, am I supposed to bring up lake maps to look at, if not what is the purpose of the cord. And last the chip is an SD card with a micro SD chip inside that wich gose into the GPS (The micro chip) what is the purpose of that, The Sd card I mean.

I do oppligize for being long winded here but if some could enlighten me on some of this I would really appreciate it.

Thanks very much.

The usb cord can be used for lots of things between the gps and your computer. I suggest going to my.garmin site and get a free account, this will install a plugin to your web browser to allow Garmin to make sure you have the latest firmware in your 450, first make sure you register your gps there.

Next download Basecamp, its free, you can get it right there at garmins site. This program will allow you to view lake data, plan trips or parts of the lake you want to checkout. You can backup you waypoints and such with Basecamp too.

There are other places you can download and install maps from your computer to the gps too.

That's just a few things you can do to start with.

Enjoy the 450!

Mike
