Fishing High Wind

In general I've never had a lot of luck fishing higher winds, much over 10 or 15 mph and the fish seem to shut down. Anyways this weekend I'm heading on a day trip and the forecast calls for 20 mph west winds. Any tips for fishing when its windy?

Make sure to set your tip-ups on the 'heavy' setting.

If you don't you will be chasing wind flags all day.

Under the ice, I don't think the wind is too much of a factor.

I don't do well on windy days either. Has to do with changing presure. My wife has also learned this and use's it against me to not go!

I've had both good and bad luck on windy days so I just gauge how important it is to me if I get out that day. I hate battling wind but I hate not fishing a time or place I've been looking forward to worse.

One caveat: I don't do high winds and glare ice, period.

North wind? stay home

East wind? stay home

West wind? give it a shot

South wind? Definitely go.
