buzbunni
With the advent of the new regs that allow for single treble hooks without (or with) blades, etc., I am curious to know if any of you will be switching (or perhaps have already switched) to single treble hooks for your tipup/deadstick sets for walleye?Pros vs. Cons? Mortality issues? For the meantime, I plan to stick with #2 or #4 single hooks and minnows for my tip-up dead stick sets, but I'm curious to know what others might think. Might be time to change it up?
uptracker
I guess it really depends on where you're fishing and the target size of fish. Here in MI, we have loose regs. That said, when I'm on inland lakes over here with walleye under 22", I use a #10 treble and a walleye minnow (shiner) under tip ups and deadsticks. When I'm on big water and big fish, I use #6 trebles (which are closer to #4's) and 8-10" suckers and shiners. Once in a while, I'll throw on a spinner blade and beads about 2-3" up the line too...works good. Also, using a lead head jig, I'll reverse hook a small sniner on inland lakes under a deadstick.Think about using vertical jigs, like a Frostee, for under your deadstick too.Not sure I'd change it up too much... gamberc
I use the a treble rig setup with all my setlines/tipups i think its very overlooked. I make my own rigs with a swivel, leader (spinner with beads like a lindy rig)and #6 treble. I'm super deadly with these units too. I will never go back to single hook. People underestimate how much bait a small fish can eat. I consitently catch smaller fish on the #6 treble with no issues. Alot of times ill use two minnows. This stratgey seems to do well for me.
