MNice
I know that more is better, but I'm frugal (read cheap) and I don't go every weekend. Would a dozen mixed in with mallard dekes be a decent start?? Any thoughts. thanks, Jeff.
Guest
I have found that groups of 8 (or so) decoys work best. Spread out the deks into families. We have made mistakes of putting 3-4 dozen deks together in the early season and the birds wouldn't come near us. Seperate them into families, far apart and we had success. When I'm alone, I'll only put out about 10 and the early season birds feel confident in landing with the fewer # of birds on the ground. But, that's just me!
Guest
In the Early Season 3 doz is plenty. Set them into family groups of no more that 8 in the X pattern. Position your blinds in the middle of the X and they will be landing in your face. But as the season wears on put out all the goose dekes you got as they are used to planding in big groups of migrating geese. Only use mallards if you see the ducks using the field that you are hunting, as they are great confedence and make the feeding area a little more natural. Also, Base numbers of dekes on the area you are hunting as well.------------------Strictly Wings Guide Service
Flash
Bemijidux,Never heard of the X pattern. Could you explain a little more.
Guest
Well it is kinda hard to explain in words but bear with me... Just form your dekes into an X pattern so there are landing areas up, down, left, and right.....This spread really rocks when the wind is swirling...I hope you can interpret my use of words ------------------Strictly Wings Guide Service
