For pike you can tie a wire leader right to the the tipup line. 'Eyes you'll probably want some sort of mono or fluoro leader line of your choice to keep from spooking them.

I personally run 4' of heavy fluoro leader from the tipup line with a snap on the other end for adding walleye or pike rigs.
