ur opinon on spinning decoy

Recommended Posts

i have a mojo jr. i bought it last fall. my first year using it i bagged lots of mallards . even broght geese in my decoys. i like it and i dont like it . nice to have to see ducks but its killing the population way down. i see people taking hens with it too witch i dont know why. do u think they should outlaw them because i dont know if they should. i would rather them outlaw them than shorten the season. i think u should only use them for goose hunting.

I believe that they should be banned throughout North America. There has been talk of them being banned in Minnesota, but I don't think that's fair. If we ban them here, the hunter's in the southern states will still be able to use them, and they already harvest far more than we do here. In the 2000 season, the average hunter in MN got about 6 ducks, whereas the average hunter in Mississippi got about 23 ducks. Does this seem fair? I personally don't think so. The best way to solve the problem would be to ban the motorized decoys throughout all of the flyways.

My experience this fall tells me differently. This type of controversey came about when fishing locators were introduced, and when they started selling under water cameras. Motion decoys are not going to ruin the duck population! Birds will become wary of them. I used them all of last season. At the bigginning of the season they worked great. Later in the seasoon they didn't make as much of a difference. Especially, if other hunters in the area had them as well. Birds simply adjust, they aren't that stupid. Don't get me wrong, they can be an extremely deadly tool, but they aren't going to have a dramatic affect on the numbers of birds taken by hunters. Simply my two cents.

I personally don't own one. I've thought about it, but still haven't justified the cost to myself. I think that before I would buy one, I'd make a wind-operated one. Kind of like the one you see in peoples' yards for wind-indicators [hmmm, I wonder if I spray-painted one of those flower/pinwheels do-hickeys with alternating B&W. wink.gif]
I own about 45-50 dekes as it is, & like everyone, I have good days & bad days out "ducking".
Anyway, I don't think they should be banned.
I'd rather see the season lengthened for us up north, or shortened for the states down south. Or maybe making the season a little later. But, who knows, every years' weather is different too.
And that's just another opinion.... wink.gif

I used one last year and they do make a difference. Personally, I would like to see them banned nationwide. Yes, local ducks do get wise to them, but the new arrivals are just as susceptible to them as the local ducks once were. I'll be using mine till they ban them, only because I need to to level the field with the other hunters in the area.

I agree with the whole "ban then nationwide or not at all" thing. Duckunlimited2002....I am going to have to disagree with you. I dont really think that they have an effect on the pop too much, they become used to them and become wary to them. I own one and will use it til its illegal. Another thing, in my experiences I see people harvesting more drakes not hens. The spinners help with a closer shot, easier identification, and less cripples.
Jus' my 2 cents!

If I'm not in the duck blind or the ice house I'm thinking about it!!......maybe thats why I can't pay attention in class!

I like them. I think this topic has been discussed to death and I wish people would leave it alone. I'm sure its not going to ruin duck hunting and sure hope it doesn't effect limits or season length. Just my opinion.
