Trolling Motors and Dekes

Recommended Posts

Anybody ever use Trolling Motors to put motion in your spread? I have heard of people mounting them to trees in the timber. I was wondering....why not just turn it on if your hunting from a boat, if your dekes are close?? Why not?? Any opinions? Suggestions? Etc.?

If I'm not in the duck blind or the ice house I'm thinking about it!!......maybe thats why I can't pay attention in class!

Never heard of doing that.
"quiver" pucks are cheap at about $10.
And you could always use what we used to do,[& sometimes still do, if conditions warrant, like forgetting to change a battery. wink.gif] attach a pull line(under water) to some of your "gang spreads" & give it a few tugs once in a while. Works for us! wink.gif

Bemidji, I guess we're the only ones on this forum who have heard of doing that. I had heard a lot about this method, and in December/January issue of DU there is a section on late season hunting -- they cite an example of a guy who uses 3 trolling motors mounted underwater to keep his pond open all winter long. You can use solar panels to collect energy, and then store it in a battery. If I had my own land to hunt, I would consider doing this to extend my season during a cold year when there was early freeze up. I'm thinking of rigging up a pull-cord for this upcoming season.

Duck-O-Holic and I used a pull cord this past season. I can say it does add a lot to your spread, however we did not notice that it made any difference, even on a really calm day. I'll definetly use it again next year, just that more expierementation is nessesary.
P.S. I too have heard of using trolling motors. It could be worth a try.
