Fishhouse Bunks- (TravelinGypsy you there?)

In the other thread about finishing the inside of a fishhouse theres a picture of TravelinGypsey's interior. His top bunk looks like a single piece of 3/4 in plywood. Has anyone else done this and does it work? I was thinking that just for added strenth a 3/4 in u-channel around the edges would really strengthen it. I always overbuild things , this sure looks like it would work to me instead of a 2 x 4 heavy box. Anybody done it?

I built a ladder frame out of light gauge steel, basically a box with a couple cross braces running front to rear and screwed a sheet of 3/8 plywood to it. Then of course 4" foam on top of that. I also used a piano hinge on the back side of the bunk to fold it up when not in use. After we built it my brother and I both sat on it for a total of about 400 lbs. so it should hold the kids it was intended for grin

Not needed but thank you. I'm glad I saw that picture or I would have built the big ugly box like everyone else. By wrapping it in u channel I think that will releave any bending also, 3/4 inch plywood is very strong. I bought a mattress from foambymail like someone else suggested, they are nice people to work with. Good luck hunting, my life is on hold for 2 weeks now also. My mind left for camp monday but my body can't go till friday morning.
