jparrucci
I am headed to Saskatchewan in October to hunt ducks. My 870 is in my Dads name and I am borrowing a stoeger from a friend. I know there are forms to fill out that I have to bring with me, but I cannot find any info on bringing borrowed firearms to and from Canada. Had anyone had any experience with this? I have tried calling both us and Canada and can't get a live person. I don't want to get up there and then not be able to hunt.
WaveWacker
I've never had a problem with ownership issues in bringing my rifle across the border to deer hunt. I think it's a bigger things with the serial number on the firearm matching up with who is responsible for it in Canada. I have been asked for my registration card upon returning into the states however. Prior to going I brought my gun in a hard case down to HHH airport to the custom's dept. and received my registration card for it. I would advise however to have your paperwork filled out but NOT signed prior to getting up to the border however.
jparrucci
For clarification, neither people who own the guns are coming with on the trip.
bigdog
Shotguns are not registered so the 870 is not tied to your father. It does not matter that you are borrowing the gun. Here is the Canadian Border Services HSOforum describing importing a firearm: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/pub/bsf5044-eng.htmlYou will need to complete this form and make 2 copies, but DO NOT sign them until you are in front of an agent at the border: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/form-formulaire/pdfs/909.pdf
nobody05
I just did it last year. As long as your papers are all filled out, you are good to go and pay the fee to get in with it there is absously no problem. They were more conserned with how much beer/tobocco we had in the vehicle than ammuntion also lol go figure. On the otherhand getting back into the states is a different story. they were by the book. Took everything out of our hunting trailor inspected gun serial numbers inspected ammo yaya an our later we got to leave.
