Fishfinder Recommendation

theR00ster

Question

Okay, I'm looking for some good recommendations on a combo fishfinder. My budget is around 500. I want something with GPS as well as temp/speed. Oh and maps are a MUST.

I've read thru some of the other posts and I know a lot of you are fans of the HB 597ci, but i've been looking at some Lowrances too (always been more of a Lowrance guy). Thoughts on Elite-5 or HDS-5?

Wondering if there are any big points Lowrance has over HB. I.e. why would someone buy Lowrance over HB?

Anyway, your opinions are greatly appreciated!

If you can afford HDS-5 get it. It has more capabilities than others you mentioned. I believe it will cost more than $500 though. After you upgrade it with Structure Scan it will be even more. I have a HB 597HD DI, a good all around unit. I do wish it had more adjustments for data displays & sonar adjustments.

I use to be a Low guy, but last year upgraded to HB. I like the screen layout and the quick screen buttons to locate the screens I use the most. When I've had questions about different things the customer service has been top notch something others where complaining about with Low.

Also, I have to redo the floorboards in my boat, so I have an opportunity to install a thru-hull transducer...

Advantages? Disadvantages?

Will this affect my decision on which Fishfinder I buy?

Again, appreciate all the advice!
