fishnowworknever
How do I know when to replace them, or how often should they be replaced?I'll post a pic later today...
Gus
never replaced mine. Motor is a 1981. But, it doesn't sit in the water other than when in use. If the boat sits in the water all season, it's probably due if you are even questioning it. Shouldn't cost much.
fishnowworknever
Thanks for the reply Gus.Brought it up to a local marine shop figuring I was going to get a new one, the guys there said it looked fine and didn't need replacement.I thought it was bad...apparently it's not. boatfixer
Rarely will one need to be replaced in these parts. Salt water Yes, quite often. However, if you keep your boat in a slip at a marina, its worth keeping an eye on. It's possible that someone in the marina can have issues with ship to shore systems and grounding issues. Stray current can start to jump from boat to boat and electrolysis can occur. Not a real common occurrence, but it does happen. I replaced several from a marina on Carter resiviour in Colorado. We were never able to determine the source.
