New Outboard Gas Tank Fittings

AJ

Question

Bought a new outboard gas tank (plastic). Bought the OMC fitting (brass). The female end on the tank is a black plastic material. The male end that screws into the tank and then accepts the OMC gas line is brass. Do I screw the brass fitting into the plastic housing with or without some sort of pipe dope or teflon tape? What is the recommended process? If some product is advised to seal the threads, what would be compatible with plastic, brass, and gasoline? Maybe I am fine without any sealer? Thanks.

If I recall correctly, the new fittings should be tapered in which case you wouldn't need to put anything on them as the taper will ultimately seal it(be careful not to over tighten). If it's not tapered, they do sell a Teflon tape for gas applications.
