muskie fishing at night

Recommended Posts

Will muskies bite all night long? I would like to get out and do some night muskie fishing around full moon time. Any stories of you muskie hunters catching big fish in the middle of the night would be fun to hear.

I caught one at Indy some years ago in the dark pulling a bucktail, since I couldn't see anything all I could do is brace for a hit while I was reeling in. When she hit it felt like I snagged a log going down the river! It was a strong 42 incher! It's fun!

Buzzsaw,

You're talking about that 42" tire you caught right? grin.gif

Back to the original post. I am not much of a muskie fisherman but I definately here a lot of very good reports coming out of the nite.

Muskie fishing is good at night especially down in the cities where the *****s are off the lake. It's actually kind of nice to have the peace and quiet. One warning, in my experience Muskies do not like the moon much so I would shoot for the New Moon if you're planning an overnighter not the full moon. Just thinking you may want to play the percentages if you're going to be up all night.

Most of the metro lakes offer a good night bite. We've fished Owasso, Bald, Deer (in cheeseland) and Independence at night with excellent results. We fished almost exclusively with topwaters like Creepers. Every now and then we'd fish a reverse in line and bulge it. Good luck. Bring some good lighting and a bolt cutter.

I caught my first and I caught my biggest in the dark. I like to fish them in the dark.

Give it a try, but be careful and make sure you are totally ready before your first cast.

Net, tools and lights need to be ready and the boat needs to be clean. Tripping in the dark and landing in a pile of hooks will ruin your trip.
