Selling my rod and reel, how much should I sell for?

651fisherman

Question

I have Falcon Cara T7 7'2 MH action CCB-5-172s-t7 w/ a Quantum Smoke SL100SPT. I bought the Reel NEW from my buddy which he never even used, because he bought the Quantum Tour. How much should I sell my set up for? I know falcon rods are pretty pricey, I got mine pretty expensive, but worth the money.

Here is how I look at used fishing equipment, and it's probably not the answer you want. If I am buying used, even if it's never been used I will not pay more than 60% of new price. Anything more than the 60% number you are getting so close to the price of new that will include a warranty that to me, it's worth spending the extra couple of bucks and getting it new. Factor in sales events or coupons and the price of new can really drive down the price of used equipment.

personally i will never pay over 40% of new considering if i go to the store not only can i take it back if dissatisfied in any way within 90 days, you get a brand new manufacters warranty as well. you get none of that when buying used & unless u actually know the individual u r buying from and know how good or bad they are with their stuff, used is a pure gamble unless u r an expert and have knowledge of what u r buying.

Great points. I find that a lot of guys want too much for their used equipment, for exactly the reasons you mentioned. I'll see a nice combo on hsolist that looks lightly used, and the guy will want 80 or 90% of the new value. For a combo that's been used for two or three years. And even sometimes I'll see someone selling a rod or reel that isn't used and they'll want FULL price. Bartering has been unsuccessful in these situations. smile
