LuckBites
I fish northerns quite a bit in the Summer and have always caught fish trolling tipped spinnerbaits or using raps over weeds. Seems like this time of year there's more luck to be had on the outer weed edges with deeper baits. What are some baits you've found succesful on deeper structure? Are the Rapala DT's good? paperlipz
Depthraiders and Triple D should be in your box.
markkstanley
DT 16s have done well. Try the fire tiger or hot mustard. I also pull the larger shad raps on lead core with walleye pattern and chartreuse working the the best. I also drag a jointed Ernie, smaller Jakes and big spinnerbaits, the 2 to 3 oz size, with good success. Try zig zaging from 15 to 25 ft off the weededge to find out where the fish are hanging. Generally the better fish are out in 20 to 24 and sometimes deeper.
jigeye
Get yourself a couple of spoonplugs and troll em about 3.5-4.5 MPH tight to the deepest weedlines you can find in a lake and hold on. It's like fishing the river, you never know what will be on the end of your line! Have fun.
