bkerschner70
Took the boat out for the first time this season. When the boat is in gear, idling for about 5 minutes I get an alarm. When it is higher in rpm's I don't get the alarm. I was told this could be a battery issue but the battery tested fine, also checked to see if I needed to add any water and that was fine too. Checked the oil, and it is pumping water out just fine. Anyone have any ideas?
fish_eat_sleep
You don't happen to be the guy with the nice alumacraft 185? Had an optimax the last few seasons that would beep once when it would idle for more than 5 minutes. i assumed it was running cold. not sure though. marine_man
What kind of beeping / alarm are you getting? What year is it?marine_man
boatfixer
Sounds like a weak waterpump to me. At an idle its not able to provide enough water flow and it gets hot enough and the alarm sounds. The higher rpms increases the water flow.
bkerschner70
I am not the guy with an Alumacraft. I have a Crestliner 1850 Sportfish. Turns out it was the impeller along with the housing. $300 later I'm back in the water. I guess it could be worse, after all I did get it done on short notice in 1 day. Better to have these problems now then during the regular fishing season that's for sure! Also I don't know if it's related but the boat seems to have more power with the new water pump in. Makes sense I guess that it performs better when cooled properly.
