SkunkedAgain
I read the DNR site and they have a million warnings about not bringing firewood to state campgrounds. I've got a ton of firewood at my place on Vermilion and want to bring some down to the Twin Cities. Question #1) Is that illegal these days?Question #2) If not, how strong is the threat (if any) of me transporting some invasive insect? Nainoa
As I understand it you can move it from one privately owned property to another as long as they are owned by you and neither location has an issue legally with transported firewood. So you'll want to call your home town municipality to make sure they don't have special requirements. And you should just always assume that any wood that has bark on it is infested. There is no way for you to 100% tell if it is or not.And of course you can't bring a single stick of it to any state/national or privately prohibited forest or campground etc... Sorgy
I believe some of the metro couties are quarentied and you may not move firewood out of the counties. I think that there are other counties with restrictions as well.
flyfisher03
I don't think you would have any issues bringing it to the metro from a non-quarantine county. They include some of the metro counties, Houston, and Winona counties.
SkunkedAgain
That's what I thought...but I certainly didn't want to be the guy who blows up the ecosystem. I know that's far-fetched but would rather err on the safe side
timjones
This should pretty much cover what you need to know.Firewood
SkunkedAgain
That's the kind of info that I was looking for
PiedmontAngler
It is legal. You would be bringing wood into a quarantined area, but not trying to take it out. (This is from info@MNDNR) I do some work with the DNR group involved with the firewood movement and flyfisher is correct, it is more of an issue moving materials out of areas where invasive pests are located than it is moving stuff in. Just be sure you aren't moving diseased wood. If you're not sure that the wood is clean, ask an expert.
SkunkedAgain
It's just pure birch and pine that I personally cut and cured in St. Louis County. It sounds like I should be in good shape. Thanks for all of the responses!
