Lets talk plastics....

Recommended Posts

I started using the new TriggerX Minnow baits 4" on Jigs two seasons ago and they are outfishing the Powerbait 2-1--they are tougher and last way longer on the Walleye teeth...

I use plastics much more than live bait these days, and almost always start with plastics before live bait. But there is usually someone in the boat who still wants to use live bait so that way we can have both in the water and see what works better. Plastics are great but they need to be moving in my opinion .... if you try bobber fishing or even slow rigging with a plastic you are likely to not have a very good experience with them.

They work well under a float if there is a good chop. But when the winds are light or clam not so much.

I used gulp or plastics jigging all the time. I love gulp crawler for pulling spinners.

I was told by my host in Ontario that I would not catch Walter on plastics.

I outfished his live bait about 9 times out of 10. Berkly has a power worm in black that is somewhat bouyant has a straight tail that worked great, I shortened mine to about 4''. Gulp has great smell but the action is not as good as this worm. Also the texture of this worm is great-I had a walleye in Canada hold on to this worm for 30 sec. before I set the hook-Also they liked my Gary Yamamoto 4" worm also in black-also great texture and action scent is really overrated (however watch out for Deet that stuff is proven to repel fish)

Good Luck

I use soft plastics most of the time. Jig 97% of the time. 3% of the time i use crankbaits----thunder sticks.

3/8 jigs plus thunder baits when needed. now color on the soft plastics and thunder sticks verses water color thats another story. smile

I've seen Gulp Alive outfish live bait too many times to not sit up and take notice. Guys in the same boat, with the same setup and the same colors, and the Gulp catches more fish and bigger fish.

Not always, mind you. But enough for me to wonder if live bait is really any better.
