I think I had this problem last year also, but I have a Humminbird 898c that won't read my Navionics chip when I put it in either slot. I tried the chart selector option with no luck. It worked last year so I know there's a way to do it!

You didn't get a new graph by chance did you?

I've got an 898cSI and my lakemaster map didn't work when I initially got the unit. It turned out that Hbird forgot to install the mapping software on the unit. Once installed i could read the maps. If it is the same unit you had last year and the same chip worked in there last year then i'm not sure what the problem is. Maybe try to reset to default, and if all else fails call humminbird.
