vexilar transducer plug repair

meathunter

Question

Trying to fix my fl8 plug for the transducer the one that plugs into the sounder. I need to resolder and there is 3 prongs 1 coated white wire and 1 non coated wire so a total of 2 wires to 3 prongs. I marked the prong that had the white wire to but will it matter which one the non coated one goes to? Also does this sound right is there supposed to be 3 wires? Thanks

No responses yet? I'll give it a shot.

Since you have three connection points and only two wires, I suggest taking the back off of the Vex and looking at the back stde to see what is hooked where. If only two wires are soldered and the colors match the xducer wire you get lucky. If that's not the case, this may help. A transducer is just a crystal that gets snapped with an AC pulse and it is not polarity sensitive. The bare wire in the cable is also serving as the cable shield, so inside the Vex that will go to the circuit ground. Inside the case you may see a wire connected to two pins on the connector, and that is the common or ground wire. The white wire goes to the other connection.

Let us know if that helps.
