20lbSloughShark
Just for giggles, I was wondering what size pond it would take for fish to survive. Could bullhead or other fish survive in a pond 1/8th to 1/4 of an acre/100 feet across, and 10 feet deep?
itchmesir
As long as it don't freeze solid.. I'd imagine it could hold fish.. is it a spring fed pond?
brian6715
My uncle has a pond smaller than that, although it may be 11-12 feet deep... but the bullheads thrive in it. He has killed them off more than once, and they always return (he assumes the eggs travel on ducks). The bullheads take over the pond year after year. It had crappies and sunfish, but I believe he had to aerate it in order to keep them alive. Eventually he gave up the good fight against the bullheads and stopped aerating it. OnAFly
Tell him to throw a bowfin in there, at least then you would have something worth catching and wouldn't need an airator.
20lbSloughShark
I have been wondering about this pond on our family farm. It was made by my great grandpa decades ago for cows. Its usually a few feet deep, but the past few years it has been 10' or more deep. I had a 10' push pole and it was deeper than it was long, but the muck makes it hard to tell the real bottom. It would be sweet to go in the middle of a forest and pull out bullheads from a pond not even 100 feet wide.
