mrpike1973
hi all so i bought this trailer the guy had bearing buddies on it. said he never had them off so i take the hubs off and cant get the hub to come off so i pull it off. the rear bearing stayed on great i think its welded to the axle not so i tap it with a hammer it pops off. clean off the axle grease it. buy brand new hubs put them on. the bearings seemed to slide right on this is a 1 inch shaft. i noticed the dust seal is not pounded in all the way so i go to take it off. hub is stuck pop it off same thing. ended up buying a new bearing for it because i dented it. what should i do the shaft is clean. doesn't feel tight i can put the bearing on it take it right back off again leave it for 10 minutes its tight please help this is both sides too could i clean the shaft with emery cloth i noticed no bluing or heat build up maybe i'm a worry wart but just want it right thanks
marine_man
I'd make sure the shaft is clean with some emery cloth. How tight are you tightening the bearings? There is a very good how-to on Wheel Bearings here that would be worth a read as well:Wheel Bearing Repacking 101marine_man
