leadcore rods

Recommended Posts

i started fishing leadcore last summer for walleyes and did pretty good, but i noticed my rods did not work to well i would end up draging fish for hours if they were not that big. I used a depthmaster from cabelas it was 8 foot 6 wondering what everyone else uses or recomends. thanks

For my middle rods I use the same rods you do. Just learn to pay closer attention to the tip action and the bend angle. Small fish can be a problem, and if you see any change in the tip wiggle or angle of the rod, bring in the bait and check it because something is wrong.

Now with saying that, there are better rods out there. I use a set of 10' steelhead rods for my long rods and they work great. The St. Croix Eyecon is supposed to be a sweet rod and the Limit Creek trolling rods are nice too. I have used a couple G.Loomis 1265c rods that I thought where the bomb but at $280 each a bit spendy. Scheels makes a very good trolling rod too, ranging in length from 5' to 14' and they are the same price as the St. Croix and Limit Creek rods. I have a friend that uses the new Tournament series trolling rods from Cabelas and he loves them. I have also used the Bass Pro trolling rods designed by Keith K and Gary Parsons. Great rods for the money.

All of the above mentioned rods are better than what you are using. How much do you want to spend?

Like John said, there are a lot of good rods out there... Scheels, Limit Creek, Bass Pro Walleye Angler. St Croix Eyecon trolling rods are new this year.

With leadcore, if I don't see my rod tip shaking, I'm checking it. If you are watching, you'll see everything including little fish.
