Chubby Darters??

I have 6-8 chubby darters and a few lindy darters. I lost a 10lb plus walleye on a chubby darter in the alex area this winter.. Broke off at the hole after getting a look at it.. Also have caught many many fish with these.. I like them for calling fish in and getting the most agressive fish to go right away.. Works well on LOTW and Mille Lacs to..

when using a darter is it best to tie them directly to the line or do you want a snap swivel in between?

Ive always used a snap.. a small cross lock snap will do. I know Berkley makes some.. Also if you look in a Slender Spoon package they have one in there too.. Thats about the size to use..

The only time I've had success with them is when the bite was super hot...and since at those times they'll bite on most anything, I don't know how much of a difference it makes. Generally, I don't like them...they might draw fish in, but I don't get them to bite on them very often. I've tried using them in one hole while I've got another jig spoon down, and sometimes they'll hit the other one, but then many of them don't, and I wonder if I'd do better wit a minnow/deadstick down in those situations.

So I don't use them much...I prefer rattling spoon like the varmint or the buckshot. I'm sure they have their place, but I just haven't found it yet.
