paperlipz
I am familiar with the difference between fins on a hybrid and a pure strain musky. Is it possible though for pure strain muskies to have different fin shapes in differnt bodies of water? Or are all muskies with rounded fins decendents of Pike? Fisher Dave
Any muskie with rounded tips on the tail (other than un-natural wear) is a Hybrid(Tiger Muskie). All pure strain muskies have sharp tips to the tail.
paperlipz
The reason I ask is that I just got a roll of film developed from last year and noticed a fish with sharp pointed tail fin as well as rounded dorsal and caudal. This fish was caught in the fall trolling and was in perfect shape. Definatly not marked like a hybrid either. Seems odd....
David Swenson
I believe the rounded dorsal and caudal fins on a muskie do occur. Looking at pictures of muskies I have caught some have pointed fins and some fins more rounded. The tails on all the muskies are pointed though. As in all things in nature, anything is possible. guideman
Hi All,The best way to identify the 2 fish is by their color patterns. Pike and Tigermuskies have light spots (or bars) on a dark background. Muskies will have the dark spots/bars on a light background.------------------Terry "Ace" SjobergAce guide service.aceguideservice.com218-753-2612[email protected]
