Blackbirds

I spotted a Grackle in a bird feeder this morning and a little later I came across a handful of Red-winged Blackbirds in a picked corn field. I've never seen blackbirds in January before. I've also never seen Horned Larks so numerous. On one road I was driving on, I came across a flock of these larks so thick, it reminded me of a swarm of mosquitos. There must have been over 100 in this flock.

All 3 of those species are sometimes around in winter. I think the lack of snow has enabled some birds to overwinter a little farther north than usual this winter and allowed them to hang out in areas that might normally be off limits by now.
