melting plastic

My Bombardier 400 is melting the plastic on the right side of the engine. Should I wrap the exhaust pipe with heat shield tape? Thanks for your assistance.

What year and model is it? Are you sure its not missing a heat shield?

I looked at the pics of a few years and they show a heat shield on most of them on the straight section ahead of the muffler.

macgyver55: thanks for your reply. I have a 2004 Bombi. There is a heat shield toward the back of the exhaust pipe just forward of the muffler...but the portion of the pipe under the gear shift is unshielded. Perhaps that area was previously protected. I'll investigate further.

If I remember correctly there should be some foil tape on the plastic on the back of the plastic. I know mine gets warm there too.
