track lug studs

All,

I am a relatively new snowmobile owner (bought one last winter) and it will be primarily used for ice fishing.  It's a 98 Yamaha Ovation (aircooled 340, 3/4" lugs on track).  With all the snow last year it was great and got around without any problems.  The clear ice this year has rendered it almost useless.  I am looking into getting studs and carbides. Based on my research I've found two options for studs.  The conventional drill through the track type and a "track lug stud" from Bottomline Traction that looks like a glorified sheet metal screw that goes into the the lugs themselves.  The track lug studs look like an easier (and less expensive) installation and I am leaning that direction and wondering if forum members have any experience with them.

Also, what should I be looking for in terms of carbides?

Thanks for your help.

Dan
