Traveling to Minneapolis 12/23/11

Traveling from Michigan to Minneapolis this Thursday. Will be staying until 12/28. Ice conditions do not look good right now. Is shorefishing a better option on one of the rivers? If so, where can I find shore fishing areas near the city? Do not have alot of room in my car for both Ice equipment and open water equipment.

Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

With the cold conditions we are having, any sketchy ice we had last weekend should be long gone by when you get here. I would bring your ice gear.

I was out last night and found good ice on the couple lakes I was on.

90% of the time during the next ten day forecast is below freezing. I wouldn't hassle with the open water equipment unless you were really seasoned with shorefishing locations, only because of what the weather is doing, how low the rivers are right now, etc. I know some guys are spanking walleyes that are still on that late fall/early winter kick, but its hard to do from shore as a visitor.

If it were me, I'd pack my ice gear and plan to walk out.

Here's a link to some comparative tables to look at when choosing lakes on the east side of the Metropolitan area

Some Metro Ponds

Lastly, check out the county links on this where to go page

Have a few lakes in mind that you want to fish, visit the Hotspotoutdoors Metro forum for ice and fishing updates, print out contour maps , do some drilling, and see if you can find some fish. Good luck.
