3 inch auger?

Looking for the ability to search rapidly under the ice by drilling 3" holes just for my transducer. Anyone do anything like this? Would a wood auger bit work?

Wouldn't it be easier to just wet the ice and shoot right through. Not really any need to drill at all.

I haven't had good luck with that in the past. With shallower, early ice it works okay but as the depth gets 12" and more the return isn't as accurate, for me.

Just wondered if anyone had found something to drill a lot of small holes fast...

regular drill and use a 3 inch drill auger bit or a 3 inch drill bit.

I don't mean to start an argument but I had a friend that insisted on doing what you want to do. But I just took my Stikemaster 224 and zipped a hole faster than he could ever drill with his cordless drill and a bit.

He did have me on weight though, so there is good and bad...

I fished with guys on LOTW near Warroad who used a 1"+ drill bit on a cordless drill and a 30' tape measure to check the depth. This only worked well during early ice. The drill bit was 12 or so inches long. They said they liked using a tape measure because they could feel the difference between a rocky bottom and a mud bottom.

true i do that too insted of useing a drill. i was just giveing him a idea. i use my ice auger and stick my tranducer down the hole while i have a pole in the other hand. i have the showdown troller and i dont have to set it down every time i look at the screen.

I think Strikemaster sell a 4 inch hand auger probably way faster to use that than a drill I also seen a add of a auger flute that attatches to a cordless drill but I can remember where I saw it. personally I go with a 4 inch hand auger cause you could fish out that hole as well
