cleaning rods

any suggestons on cleaning fishing rods (graphite) I've been using windex for alot of years,works good enough, just wondering if anyone has a better idea, also wondering If they could be wiped down with silicon?
would'nt want no nasty reaction to the finish,

I think useing windex is fine to clean them,But after they're clean try some Armor All to put some shine and a protective finish on them.
