MILK HOUSE HEATER

Recommended Posts

Greetings,

I've heard that the old milk house heaters work well as ice fishing heaters.

They look to be a reliable.. simple design. Seen one online elsewhere.

Has anyone used them for this purpose? If so, do they work well?

This is a great forum!

Thanks.

not sure i can belive a milk house heater was the number one cause of fires. unless alot of farmers set news papers on them. they are fairly safe when you are watching them. i wouldnt leave it on over night unattended.

i have one in my spear house. i have styrofoam insulation and bare studs. the first time i used it it did melt the styrofoam alittle. after that i put a 2 foot piece of roof flashing on the wall to cure that.

find one with a vent pipe or make a spot for a vent pipe. if you dont have one your house will get to warm. mine does at least. with a vent pipe you can run the heater hotter and open the damper to let some heat out. im my house i can run the heater as low as i can get it and it will be to warm on a 20 degree day.

good luck
