muskies from a canoe is no problem and a lot of fun! just make sure you got a quality hook cutter and jaw spreader and good pliers like mentioned above! i use heavy "bass" tackle quite a bit for 'skies. I use a flipping stick and curado 300 for 'skies a lot and throw stuff like small to medium muskie spinners, rapala x walks, swimming jigs etc

I totally understand the emphasis of having the proper release tools, many of todays lures are made of a wire and some tinsel so they are easily inhaled by an agressive fish...had we not had these tools one fish would not have swam away for sure this past summer for me anyways
